AS Nurme Turvas, an Estonian/Dutch joint undertaking, provides stable employment for 50 people.
Peat mining in Lavassaare bog (peat deposit) began as early as the beginning of the 20th century during the first Republic of Estonia. The production base of Nurme Turvas, a public limited company founded in 1994, is located in Nurme Village, Sauga Rural Municipality, Pärnu County. Consistent production can be said to have started in 1958. Today, our principal area of activity is the production and packaging of peat moss. The bulk of our production is mainly exported to Western European countries. Sales to Asian nations, such as Japan, Korea, and Israel, are increasing as well. We have also supplied peat moss to the U.S., New Zealand, United Arab Emirates, and other countries. Our vicinity to Pärnu, Muuga, and Paldiski commercial ports provides us with a great logistical advantage. Approximately 55% of our products are sold packaged.
Our predominant focus is on supply of large quantities; however, we are always happy to accommodate private customers in the vicinity to whom we offer the opportunity to purchase peat moss on site at our packaging plant.
Customer information: we do not produce or sell compressed peat blocks.
