Peat Production Process

All our processes are conducted under strict quality control protocols and are certified under the RHP quality mark.

Exceptional Baltic Peat Moss

Our peat production process is the result of precise coordination between nature, expertise, and technology. Having grown into one of Estonia’s largest peat producers, we manage approximately 1,300 hectares of peatlands across two strategically located sites. Our operations yield up to 1.3 million cubic meters of premium peat moss annually. Most of which is exported to over 35 countries worldwide. With 95% of our production delivered to international markets.  We play a key role in supplying professional growers in horticultural with a clean, consistent, and high-performing growing media.

Our production process is fully integrated, from field preparation and harvesting to screening, mixing, packaging, and shipping. The operation is based two locations, one at our central site in Nurme Village, Estonia, where our team ensures that each stage meets the highest industry standards. By investing in cutting edge equipment and RHP-certified quality control systems, we guarantee substrates that meet the technical demands of commercial horticulture.

Milling, turning and HARVESTING

Milled peat harvesting method is an efficient, sustainable technique that minimizes environmental impact while maximizing yield. The surface of the collection site is milled. Once dried, the peat is collected and transported directly to our adjacent processing facility. This proximity allows for rapid movement of materials and ensures freshness of the harvested peat.

Once the field is prepared, the surface of the peat field is milled into thin, even layers, typically ranging from 1 to 3 centimeters in thickness. These fine layers are spread out over wide areas of the bog and left to dry under the sun and wind. Estonia’s summer climate aids in the natural drying process, allowing moisture evaporation without the need for artificial drying methods.

After reaching the right dryness, peat is collected using vacuum harvesters. These machines are designed to efficiently gather the dried material while minimizing disruption to the underlying bog layers. The collected peat is transported directly to our adjacent processing and packaging facility, reducing the time between harvesting and processing, and ensuring maximum freshness of the collected material.

This process has been optimized over the years to balance productivity and sustainability, allowing us to harvest large volumes of peat while preserving the natural integrity of the bog landscape. The process begins with the careful preparation of the peat fields. Surface vegetation is cleared, and the bog is leveled and drained through a network of shallow ditches. This setup ensures effective water management, which is essential for the successful drying of milled peat layers.

Milled peat harvesting allows us to scalable operation, which is essential given our production capacity of up to 1.3 million cubic meters annually. It also enables us to produce a uniform product that meets the quality standards required by professional growers worldwide.

PEAT STORAGE & PEAT STORAGE &

The harvested peat is stored temporarily in open-air stockpiles before being transferred to our on-site processing plant. Located near the harvesting areas, this facility is central to our operational efficiency. By storing the peat near our production plant, we minimize the need for extended transportation, we preserve the material’s natural characteristics.

Each stockpile is categorized by harvest date and peat characteristics, which allows us to maintain full traceability and manage quality from the very beginning of the production cycle. In the next phase in our processing facility, located adjacent to the storage fields. This facility is the core of our operation and is fully equipped with automated systems for screening, mixing, and baling.

During the screening process peat is separate into specific fractions sizes, ranging from 0-5mm ,0-10mm, 0-20mm, 0-40mm and 10-40mm, depending on its intended horticultural applications. This step helps to keep consistency and cleanliness of the substrate, by removing any unwanted materials and refining the structure of peat.

Within the processing line, we also prepare tailored blends by incorporating selected additives such as lime, fertilizers (including controlled-release types like Osmocote), wetting agents, perlite, and clay. Our mixing systems can prepare large batches of uniform, ready-to-use substrates. These blends are developed to meet the specific needs of the customers.

To guarantee consistent performance and compliance with international standards, every batch of peat is tested in our on-site laboratory. Our laboratory technicians monitor key parameters including pH, nutrient balance, electrical conductivity, moisture content, and fiber structure. Learn more about Our Products

PEAT SUBSTRATE Packaging

Our peat packaging process is a crucial final step that ensures the delivery of clean, consistent, and high-quality products to our customers across the globe. Our on-site packaging facility is designed for efficiency, accuracy, and flexibility, a key element in meeting the diverse needs of the professional horticulture and agriculture industry.

Packaging that Suits Every Application

We offer a wide range of packaging options to accommodate varying growers’ requirements and logistical considerations. Our peat moss is available in several standardized formats, including:

  • 225L, 250L, and 300L Prime bales – ideal for smaller operations or for growers requiring more manageable units.
  • 6,000L Big bales – designed for high-volume users and commercial greenhouse operations where bulk handling is preferred.

These compressed packaging formats are optimized for international transport. They allow for reduced shipping volume, lower freight costs, and easier handling, while maintaining the physical integrity and structural quality of the peat moss throughout the transit.

Our packaging lines are fully automated to ensure consistent bale size, density, and labeling. Each unit is accurately weighed, sealed, and wrapped with protective film to prevent contamination during transport. Packaging automation increases production output and reliability, ensuring that each package meets quality standards.

Each packaged unit is labeled with product information, including fraction size, blend composition, and batch number. This system provides full traceability, reinforcing our commitment to quality and accountability. Custom packaging solutions are negotiable.
